October City is one of the new Egyptian cities, created to alleviate the population increase in the Giza and Cairo governorates. It is considered one of the most important cities affiliated with Giza Governorate. It was declared an independent governorate from Giza in 2008, then returned again as a city affiliated with Giza Governorate in 2011 after the January Revolution. October City was named after the October 6th War.
October City is divided into 12 residential districts, the most important of which are the Distinguished District, Al-Bashayer District, West Somid District, and the First, Second, Third, and Eighth districts. These districts are characterized by their elegance and quiet, with villas and residential units of the highest standard.
October City is distinguished by hosting many well-known hospitals, including Dar Al Fouad Hospital, Al Safwa Hospital, Al Zahraa Hospital, Tabarak Hospital, and also Al Wadi Hospital, among other hospitals.
The city also includes a large number of well-known universities, such as Misr University for Science and Technology, Modern Sciences and Arts University, the International Academy for Engineering and Media, and Zewail City for Science and Technology. It also has one of the branches of the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University. Among the most famous schools in October are the International Kingdom School, Mubarak-Kohl School, Royal International School of Languages, and Nefertari International School.
October City is considered one of the most famous industrial cities, housing many well-known factories, the most important of which are Juhayna Factory, Mercedes Factory, BMW Factory, Nissan Factory, and Domty Factory.
The city also prides itself on hosting the largest technology and communications companies in the world, the most important of which are Microsoft and IBM. As for telecommunications companies, Vodafone and Etisalat are considered the most famous companies in October City.
October City includes a large number of entertainment places, the most famous of which are Cityscape Mall, Dolphin Land Mall, Mall of Arabia, Palm Strip Mall, Dream Park, Trees Club, Green Park Walkway, Syrians Street, and the Cosmic Village, among other wonderful entertainment venues.
October City is one of the cities with a low population density, with a population of about 2,298 people and an area of 217.49 square kilometers. October City is about 38 km away from Cairo Governorate. It is also characterized by a lower temperature because it is elevated above sea level.
Despite the many advantages previously mentioned about October City, it has drawbacks including frequent accidents due to ongoing digging and numerous construction operations in the area. In addition, residents suffer from difficulty going out at night due to the lack of lighting on the roads. They also rely on their own cars because of the absence of public transportation.
