The city of El Alamein is considered one of the most important cities in the Marsa Matruh Governorate. The history of El Alamein dates back to the Roman Empire era, where El Alamein was divided into three main areas: El Alamein, Tel al-Eiss area, and Sidi Abdel Rahman area. El Alamein was named after witnessing the famous Battle of El Alamein that took place during World War II between the Axis powers and the Allies.

The El Alamein Military Museum, located northwest of the Mediterranean Sea. This museum was inaugurated by the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser and houses a large number of artifacts from World War II, such as weapons, military clothing, and other war-related items. The museum was later renovated fifty years after the Battle of El Alamein.
The El Alamein Military Museum is divided into 6 halls: Egypt Hall, Italy Hall, Germany Hall, Britain Hall, a joint hall for all countries, an exhibition area, and finally, the command center.
Another significant landmark in El Alamein is the Marina El Alamein Museum, which involved contributions from numerous experts from the United States, Egypt, and Poland. The museum features 500 artifacts dated back to the Ptolemaic, Greek, and Roman eras.
Sidi Abdel Rahman village is one of the most famous villages in El Alamein city, located around 30 km away from El Alamein. The village is a significant tourist destination, known for its white sands and the Sidi Abdel Rahman Gulf. The village also includes a large number of resorts and tourist villages, most notably the Marassi Resort, which boasts fertile grazing lands, large villas, a golf course, and several winding water passages.
Marina is also one of the most popular resorts in El Alamein due to its numerous chalets, summer houses, commercial centers, and hotels. It offers a wide array of entertainment services, in addition to its beautiful nature that attracts many visitors.
El Alamein city also has an old Roman cathedral and numerous cemeteries, the most notable of which are the Commonwealth cemeteries that contain many war victims from Britain, Malaysia, India, France, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
Additionally, there are the Italian cemeteries, which include Italy's war victims from World War II. These cemeteries also contain a small church, a mosque, and a museum showcasing numerous war memories. In addition, there are the German cemeteries, divided into 8 rooms, each containing 600 soldiers, except for one room that contains 80 unknown soldiers.
