The city of Beni Suef is one of the cities in the governorates of Upper Egypt, and the capital was named after the governorate by a decree from Muhammad Ali Pasha in 1821. Beni Suef is considered one of the most important agricultural and archaeological governorates, as it contains many Egyptian archaeological treasures, and it is known that Beni Suef governorate has witnessed many important historical events over the years.

Most of the inhabitants work in agriculture, hence the governorate excels in producing wheat and cotton, as well as garlic, onions, melons, and aromatic and medicinal plants. The governorate also significantly contributes to industry, possessing many cement factories, clay brick factories, textile factories, and numerous small industries such as kilim manufacturing and many handicrafts.
In 2012, an agreement was announced with South Korea to establish the first massive electronics production factory, Samsung factory, to be executed over three years. In August 2018, the opening of the National Cement Company factory complex was announced. Therefore, it can be said that the investment field is open in Beni Suef governorate, especially in industries based on agricultural and animal production, for which Beni Suef is famous.
It is worth mentioning that Beni Suef governorate includes one of the most important universities in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Beni Suef University, which encompasses an elite of experienced faculty members as well as a large number of practical and theoretical colleges. The governorate also contains a large number of libraries and cultural houses and has a sports club, Beni Suef Telephones Club, which participated for the first time in the Egyptian Premier League in 2011.
