Al Zulfi is one of the governorates of the Riyadh region, located within the Al Yamama region in the central part of the Kingdom. It is considered one of the best governorates due to its strategic location, as it connects the northeastern part of Saudi Arabia with the Gulf. It is one of the populated areas, with a total population of about 74,903 families. It consists of Saudis, amounting to 52,742, and approximately 22,161 residents.
One of its most important sectors is tourism, with over three million pilgrims passing through annually. Revenues have reached about 2.7 billion riyals. Al Zulfi is the fourth stop for pilgrims and the fifth most visited place in the Riyadh region by tourists.
Among the most famous religious landmarks are the mosques, with one of the most famous being the Northern Mosque, located in the middle of the market in the old northern part. It is one of the oldest mosques there. Additionally, there is Al Alawiyah Mosque, located west of the northern market and is also among the old mosques. Moreover, there is the Camel Mosque north of the Northern Mosque, Al Thiyeb Mosque south of King Abdul Aziz Mosque, and Al Roumi Mosque south of Al Alawiyah Mosque.
As for formal education, it began in the year 1368 AH when the first school was opened in the name of Al-Quds for the primary level in 1368 AH. The second school was opened named Ibn Khaldun for the primary level as well in 1372 AH.
This was followed by other schools like Al Waqra and Al Rawda in 1374 AH. An education administration was established there in 1402 AH.
Then, the establishment of primary schools continued until there were about fifty schools within all neighborhoods and villages, in addition to institutes and colleges designated for higher education. The most famous of these is the Scientific Institute affiliated with Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud University, as well as the Vocational Training Institute, the Technical College, the Dental College, and the College of Science and Education.
As for girls' education, it started in 1384 AH, with about 27 schools for the primary level, around 13 for the intermediate level, and about 7 for the secondary level.
