Al-Qurayyat serves as the administrative capital in the Al-Jawf region, which is located in the north of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its history dates back to 1357 AH, and its population alone is approximately 116,162 people. However, the total population in the governorate, including all centers and villages, is 147,550 people.
Al-Qurayyat is distinguished by its location on the international road that connects the Arabian Gulf region with the Levant and Europe. It covers an area of about 50 km² and is considered one of the governorates with a strategic location as it has the Al-Hadithah port, which is the largest land border port in the Middle East.
As for the residents' activities, they are varied, as the city has become famous for working in salt extraction due to the abundance of salt lands there.
Regarding industry, it relies on selling all agricultural products, the most famous of which is olive oil, in addition to olive canning. Trade is available there because it is a border area, so car trade is common.
In terms of archaeological sites, there is Al-Saeedi Castle, which is currently partially demolished and is in Kaf village next to Kaf Palace. It was five meters high and built with basalt stones. The castle is surrounded by a large wall with four towers at each corner and has rooms used for housing, surveillance, and also for placing water tanks.
You can visit the castle through a winding path that is 1200 meters long from the base of the mountain to the castle's gate. The palace's construction dates back to the Nabataean period, and the castle was used to protect the pilgrims' route until the beginning of the Al Saud rule.
There is also Ibn Shaalan Palace or Kaf Palace, which is one of the prominent landmarks in Al-Qurayyat and is located in Kaf village, about 18 km east of Al-Qurayyat. The village is surrounded by many caravan stations in the north of the peninsula and later turned into an Ottoman garrison.
Then salt extraction began there until the villagers moved to Nabk, and Kaf Palace currently became a headquarters for the road guard forces in the region. It is also a tourist attraction for visitors from inside and outside the Kingdom.
