Al-Muqattam is one of the neighborhoods located on top of Al-Muqattam Mountain in Cairo Governorate. It is divided into three plateaus: the upper, middle, and lower plateaus. The foot of Al-Muqattam contains several tombs in which a number of companions were buried, the most famous of whom is the companion Amr ibn al-As, may God be pleased with him. The construction of the Al-Muqattam neighborhood began in the early twentieth century by an Italian company to become a residential area housing many of Cairo's residents.
Its area reaches 36,000 square kilometers, and the population in 2016 was 142,000 individuals.

Al-Asmarat neighborhood is one of the newly established residential areas in Al-Muqattam. It is located in the middle of the road between Nasr City and the Ring Road, consisting of several residential communities known for their economic prices.
The Diplomatic neighborhood is one of the most upscale areas in Al-Muqattam, currently offering villas and residential apartments built to the highest standards, and residential areas in this neighborhood are still under construction.
Among the most famous archaeological sites in Al-Muqattam is the Monastery of Saint Simon, which was carved inside a rock in Al-Muqattam Mountain. This monastery is considered the largest monastery in Egypt and is one of the best places for photo sessions in Egypt. Some of the most famous figures from Al-Muqattam include the writer Youssef El-Sebaei, the artist Adel Imam, and Field Marshal Abdel Halim Abu Ghazala.
