Al-Majma'ah is the center of Al-Majma'ah Governorate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and it is also the capital of the Sudair region in Najd. It was established in the year 833 AH. Its population exceeds 151,877 people according to 2022 statistics, and Al-Majma'ah is divided into twelve neighborhoods and contains 65,850 housing units.
The history of Al-Majma'ah dates back to 1417 AD, and the first to develop it was Abdullah Al-Shammari, and it was built on the ruins of the old town of Munikh.
Al-Majma'ah is distinguished by its strategic location, as it is about 180 km away from Riyadh, the distance between it and Al-Qassim is about 140 km, it is about 300 km away from Hafar Al-Batin, and it is about 85 km away from the city of Shaqra.
Additionally, the roads connecting it to these areas are among the most important main roads in the Kingdom, and one of the most significant of these roads is the international road or (the Al-Majma'ah Kuwait road) which connects the central region to a large number of Gulf countries.
Al-Majma'ah includes a number of culturally, historically, and geographically significant archaeological sites. Examples of these places include the heritage village in the historical center of Al-Majma'ah, the Al-Marqab archaeological castle, Jabal Munikh, the museum and exhibition specializing in the history of education, and the Sheikh Ibrahim bin Saif mosque.
It is said that the reason for naming Al-Majma'ah is the presence of many valleys converging there, such as Wadi Al-Mashqar, Shu'ayb Al-Nakhil, Shu'ayb Al-Khais, Shu'ayb Al-Ammar, Shu'ayb Hattaba, Shu'ayb Washi, Shu'ayb Al-Kalbi, Shu'ayb Al-Ruwaida, and finally Shu'ayb Al-Kalbi.
Al-Majma'ah residents are known for their work in the trade of dates and bread. The city is famous for its Khidri dates. It is also known for having a large number of kuttabs and old educational schools. Examples include the kuttab of Abdullah bin Matar, the kuttab of Abdullah Al-Khalil, King Abdulaziz Mosque School, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saleh Al-Sa'in School, and Saif bin Mohammed Al-Otaibi School.
As for universities, there is one university in Al-Majma'ah, which is Al-Majma'ah University, established by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz. It includes a large number of colleges, the most notable of which are: the College of Medicine, the College of Applied Medical Sciences, and the College of Computer Science and Information. It also has several clubs such as Al-Faisaly Saudi Club and Al-Fayha Saudi Club.
It is worth mentioning that Al-Majma'ah has witnessed a large number of battles, the most significant of which are: the Battle of Umm Al-Asafeer, the Battle of Al-Qa'iya, and the Battle of Jarab in which William Shakespeare was killed in the year 1333 AH.
